Bill Blass Designer History:
Bill Blass American fashion design star was born in Indiana, with style in his DNA from early age . He was the son of a dressmaker, and is greatly recognized for ageless, artistic, exceptionally tailored women’s apparel and creative textures and designs mixtures. His desire for style started as fashion - influenced rough drawings in his school textbooks and got a huge boost at age 15, when he started sewing and retailing evening dresses for a only $25 a piece to a New York producer. By the age of 17 he went to NYC to formally study fashion. Blass joined the army in the beginning of the 1940’s and was located to a section with other specialists with an extraordinarily imaginative, Marco-Polo type combating quest: to deceive the German Army into believing the Allies were located in false locations. Following his release, his design career started out in Earnest in 1946 and kept solid for many years to come, in both male and female apparel. In 1970 he bought-out Maurice Rentner Ltd., exactly where he had worked for many years, and changed the name to Bill Blass Limited.

The following 30 years are all fashion style and design history as Blass widened his company outside the fundamentals to involve anything from sportswear to footwear, swimming wear, furs, travel luggage, eyewear, jeans, fragrances, airline outfits, Lincoln Town Cars, home furniture, linens, and even chocolates. With the change of this century, his homonym enterprise was turning in $700 million a year. He acquired numerous awards over the journey of his amazing career, especially seven Coty Awards, Mademoiselle’s Design for Living award at the young age of 18, and the Fashion Institute of Technology's 1999 Lifetime Achievement Award.

In 1999 Bill decided to retire and sell Bill Blass Limited for the significant amount of $50 million to Michael Groveman and Harest Tharani. Michael Vollbracht has long been the house’s head designer ever since. Blass was shortly afterwards clinically diagnosed with many types of cancer, which eventually caused his death after three years. The business is at present managed by NexCen Companies which continues to produce and sell Blass timeless perfumes and designs, as well as fashionable apparel, and home pieces of furniture as well as fashion accessories.
